All You Need to Know About Waxing

Today, we’re diving into the world of waxing. Whether you’re a waxing newbie or a seasoned pro, this guide will provide you with all the information you need to make the most of your waxing experience.

Why Choose Waxing?

Waxing is one of the most popular hair removal methods, and for good reason. Here are some benefits of choosing waxing over other hair removal techniques:

Long-Lasting Results

Unlike shaving, which only cuts hair at the surface, waxing removes hair from the root. This means you can enjoy smooth, hair-free skin for up to four weeks.

Finer and Sparser Hair

With regular waxing, hair tends to grow back finer and sparser over time. This makes future waxing sessions easier and less painful.

Exfoliation

Waxing not only removes unwanted hair but also exfoliates the skin by removing dead skin cells. This leaves your skin feeling smooth and rejuvenated.

Less Irritation

While shaving can lead to nicks, cuts, and razor burn, waxing typically causes less irritation, especially with professional application and proper aftercare.

Preparing for Your Waxing Appointment

To ensure the best possible results and a comfortable experience, follow these tips before your waxing session:

  • Exfoliate: Gently exfoliate the area to be waxed 24 hours before your appointment to remove dead skin cells and help prevent ingrown hairs.
  • Avoid Sun Exposure: Avoid tanning or prolonged sun exposure at least 48 hours before waxing, as this can make your skin more sensitive.
  • Hair Length: Ensure your hair is at least 1/4 inch long for effective waxing. If your hair is too short, the wax may not be able to grip it properly.
  • Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated, which can help reduce discomfort during waxing.

Aftercare Tips for Smooth and Healthy Skin

Proper aftercare is essential for maintaining smooth and healthy skin post-waxing. Here are some tips:

1

Avoid Hot Baths and Showers

For the first 24 hours after waxing, avoid hot baths, showers, saunas, and steam rooms to prevent irritation.

2

Wear Loose Clothing

Opt for loose-fitting clothes to avoid friction and allow your skin to breathe.

3

Moisturize

Keep your skin moisturized with a gentle, fragrance-free lotion to maintain softness and prevent dryness.

4

Avoid Sun Exposure

Protect your skin from the sun by wearing sunscreen or staying in the shade, as freshly waxed skin is more susceptible to sunburn.

Microblading Results

Imagine your eyebrows looked like this for two to three years, every morning without fail? When we launched a new service called microblading, our community  in the Johannesburg southern suburbs and even further as far as Sandton and the greater Johannesburg area, responded with absolute delight 😉

Microblading is a form of semi-permanent eyebrow makeup where pigment is implanted under your skin with a manual handheld tool. The professional beauty therapist — who should have undergone professional training to perform such a procedure — draws hair-like strokes with the tool to mimic natural hairs in your brows. It’s a form of tattoo makeup artistry (but not as deep as a tattoo) that aims to partially or fully camouflage missing eyebrow hair with the appearance of simulated hair using ultra fine deposits of cosmetic tattoo pigments.

What your eyebrows say about you!

What your eyebrows say about you!

If you’re like us, you’ll love this fun article by Makeup.com on what your brows say about you 😉 We’d love to know if there’s any truth in it – tell us on our Facebook page here.

what your eyebrow shape says about youUntamed Brows

Like your burly brows, you like to run wild. You are not a person who colors inside the lines and you most definitely cannot be bothered to tweeze your brows. And with full, bold brows being all the rage right now, why should you? You prefer to live life on your own terms and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Curved Brows

In addition to having a creative mind, you are quite the savvy businesswoman! And as if that wasn’t enough, studies have shown that your brows signify trustworthiness, so it’s likely that you’re that friend everyone counts on when things get a little rough. Keep that curve curvy by trying a two-in-one tool that will colour and shape your brows at once.

Naturally Thick Brows

Confidence is not an issue for you, especially since you were born with the trendiest brows ever! Just like your brows, you’re quite the bold, assertive one. And while you were blessed with naturally full brows, you definitely like to keep them under control (like everything else in your life). Brow gel is (or should be) your go-to for showing those brows who’s running the show.

Straight Brows

You fall more on the logical and intellectual side of things, and aren’t one for impulsive, irrational decisions. You have your daily routines — from makeup to meals — down to a science. To keep your brows on the straight and narrow, enlist the help of an ultra-slim pencil. While we love your solid, unwavering brows, we encourage you to shake things up once in awhile and try something a little impulsive!

Arched Brows

You’re a total dreamer and the sensitive one in your group. That being said, you like to keep details of your life private and have a stubborn streak about you. We promote being stubborn with your makeup routine, especially in relation to your brows. Don’t sacrifice that natural, angled shape! Make sure you tweeze regularly (and properly) and keep a brow kit handy to make sure your shape is always on-point.

Thin Brows

Oh, you indecisive one! Your sparse brows tell us you have a rough time making decisions and like to enlist the opinions of others before taking a side on anything. And while we like to encourage you to go with your gut a little more often, we would like to put our two cents in when it comes to your brows. Whether your slim brows are by choice or by nature, may we suggest filling them out a bit? We’re not just pushing this because full, bold brows are in, but thin, sparse brows have a way of instantly aging you. And we know you don’t want that!

If you dream of picture-perfect brows, why not consider microblading? Have a look at one of our clients below – how her eyebrows are beautifully defined. [Eyebrows] Microblading – Everything You Need to Know

Microblading is taking the beauty industry by storm, for so many amazing reasons.

Microblading is also known by a other names such as eyebrow embroidery, microstroking, feather touch and hair like strokes.

Does It Hurt?

All pain is relative. And modern women have become quite accustomed to taking some discomfort in the name of convenience and beauty – think about waxing. While some may feel the procedure more than others, it’s not unbearable. The best way we can describe it? It feels like tiny little scratches. If you’ve ever had a tattoo yourself, you’ll know that as soon as the tool is lifted from your skin, immediately the pain or discomfort disappears. It’s much the same feeling with microblading, but less because the pen we use does not go as deep under the skin. And each stroke is relatively quick so if you can handle the feeling of scratches you’ll be able to handle microblading – and the results we’re told by our customers are totally worth it.

It is worth noting our beautician will numb the area before microblading.

Before

To prepare yourself for your microblading appointment, it is advisable to stop drinking or taking aspirin one week prior. These make your skin thin and can cause bleeding during the procedure. Take two myprodols before your appointment to help prepare yourself for any discomfort.

Afterwards

For the first three days dry healing is required, which means that no water or cream can be put over your eyebrows. For the next 11 days a medical grade coconut oil can be applied if there is any itching. It is normal to experience mild itching and redness. Most customers don’t have to hide and enjoy beautiful brows that are selfie ready straight away.

How Long Does It Take?

micorblading, eyebrows, semi permanent makeupAt Nail Studio and Beauty, we don’t like to rush – especially when it comes to an extremely meticulous process like individual eyelash extensions or microblading eyebrows. The entire process takes about about an hour to an hour and a half, as our therapist expertly draws individual, tiny strokes one by one. The first half hour is spent numbing the area and then we draw in the eyebrows with a pencil — which we’ll show you so you can be 100% sure that you’re happy with the shape of your eyebrows. Once this has been done we can start to microblade. Our beauty therapist is trained in professional eyebrow shaping so will talk you through the process and advise on the best shape for your face, while taking into consideration your personal preferences.

How Long Does It Last?

Microblading is a semi-permanent makeup treatment, so lasts for up to two years before beginning to fade.

Who Would Want It?

microblading, eyebrows, semi permanent makeup, beauty salon, bassoniaAnyone who wants to throw out their eyebrow pencil or gel 😉 Not all of us are blessed with beautiful, bold eyebrows – so for those with thin or overplucked eyebrows – it’s a dream procedure! Even those with balding spots or uneven eyebrows love microblading because it can fill in any missing hairs and create a well defined shape they can wake up to every morning.

Your eyebrows are arguably your most important facial feature – they can define your face in the most fabulous of ways. Our specialist beautician who performs our microblading procedure knows all about how eyebrows can emphasize your eyes and improve your face’s overall symmetry. Remember that perfect brows depend on the dimensions of your face, so there’s not a one-size-fits-all approach and each appointment will be individually assessed to ensure your brow makes you look fresh, rested and overall more attractive.

What if I already have semi permanent eyebrow makeup?

There is a process called shading that can be used to correct or fix eyebrows that have started to fade from brown to a grey colour. We can shade over your eyebrows to make them brown again – this costs between R500 to R900 depending on how much shading is needed. it’s worth noting that if you already have a semi-permanent eyebrow tattoo and would like microblading, shading will need to be done first, and only six weeks later will we be able to perform the microblading procedure.

How Much Does It Cost?

The two treatment should be viewed as an investment as it is semi-permanent makeup. Nail Studio and Beauty, Bassonia charges R2,000.00 for microblading – (our special of R1,500 has ended as of 1 December 2016).

Shading as explained above costs between R500 to R900, depending on how much shading is required.
