Microblading is taking the beauty industry by storm, for so many amazing reasons. Microblading is a form of semi-permanent eyebrow makeup where pigment is implanted under your skin with a manual handheld tool. The professional beauty therapist — who should have undergone professional training to perform such a procedure — draws hair-like strokes with the tool to mimic natural hairs in your brows. It’s a form of tattoo makeup artistry (but not as deep as a tattoo) that aims to partially or fully camouflage missing eyebrow hair with the appearance of simulated hair using ultra fine deposits of cosmetic tattoo pigments.
Microblading is also known by a other names such as eyebrow embroidery, microstroking, feather touch and hair like strokes.
Does It Hurt?
All pain is relative. And modern women have become quite accustomed to taking some discomfort in the name of convenience and beauty – think about waxing. While some may feel the procedure more than others, it’s not unbearable. The best way we can describe it? It feels like tiny little scratches. If you’ve ever had a tattoo yourself, you’ll know that as soon as the tool is lifted from your skin, immediately the pain or discomfort disappears. It’s much the same feeling with microblading, but less because the pen we use does not go as deep under the skin. And each stroke is relatively quick so if you can handle the feeling of scratches you’ll be able to handle microblading – and the results we’re told by our customers are totally worth it.
It is worth noting our beautician will numb the area before microblading.
Before
To prepare yourself for your microblading appointment, it is advisable to stop drinking or taking aspirin one week prior. These make your skin thin and can cause bleeding during the procedure. Take two myprodols before your appointment to help prepare yourself for any discomfort.
Afterwards
For the first three days dry healing is required, which means that no water or cream can be put over your eyebrows. For the next 11 days a medical grade coconut oil can be applied if there is any itching. It is normal to experience mild itching and redness. Most customers don’t have to hide and enjoy beautiful brows that are selfie ready straight away.
How Long Does It Take?
At Nail Studio and Beauty, we don’t like to rush – especially when it comes to an extremely meticulous process like individual eyelash extensions or microblading eyebrows. The entire process takes about about an hour to an hour and a half, as our therapist expertly draws individual, tiny strokes one by one. The first half hour is spent numbing the area and then we draw in the eyebrows with a pencil — which we’ll show you so you can be 100% sure that you’re happy with the shape of your eyebrows. Once this has been done we can start to microblade. Our beauty therapist is trained in professional eyebrow shaping so will talk you through the process and advise on the best shape for your face, while taking into consideration your personal preferences.
How Long Does It Last?
Microblading is a semi-permanent makeup treatment, so lasts for up to two years before beginning to fade.
Who Would Want It?
Anyone who wants to throw out their eyebrow pencil or gel 😉 Not all of us are blessed with beautiful, bold eyebrows – so for those with thin or overplucked eyebrows – it’s a dream procedure! Even those with balding spots or uneven eyebrows love microblading because it can fill in any missing hairs and create a well defined shape they can wake up to every morning.
Your eyebrows are arguably your most important facial feature – they can define your face in the most fabulous of ways. Our specialist beautician who performs our microblading procedure knows all about how eyebrows can emphasize your eyes and improve your face’s overall symmetry. Remember that perfect brows depend on the dimensions of your face, so there’s not a one-size-fits-all approach and each appointment will be individually assessed to ensure your brow makes you look fresh, rested and overall more attractive.
What if I already have semi permanent eyebrow makeup?
There is a process called shading that can be used to correct or fix eyebrows that have started to fade from brown to a grey colour. We can shade over your eyebrows to make them brown again – this costs between R500 to R900 depending on how much shading is needed. it’s worth noting that if you already have a semi-permanent eyebrow tattoo and would like microblading, shading will need to be done first, and only six weeks later will we be able to perform the microblading procedure.
How Much Does It Cost?
The two treatment should be viewed as an investment as it is semi-permanent makeup. Nail Studio and Beauty, Bassonia charges R2,000.00 for microblading – (our special of R1,500 has ended as of 1 December 2016).
Shading as explained above costs between R500 to R900, depending on how much shading is required.
